How to Service Your IEM

Your AAW monitors travel close to the body — close to skin, sweat, and the rhythm of daily life. A few minutes of care after each session preserves the comfort of the shells, the openness of the sound bores, and the certainty of every connection. This is the ritual we recommend.

The ritual

Six habits that protect fit, sound, and longevity

Work gently. Always clean outward from openings. Never force a tool into a sound bore — if debris is packed deep, stop, set the monitor aside, and reach out to AAW support. The care your monitors receive at home should always feel calm, never forced.

Step 01

Brush loose dust away

A soft brush lifts the day from the shells — lint, dry skin, surface dust — without ever pressing it deeper. Sweep gently outward across the shell, faceplate edge, and nozzle exterior, letting particles rise away from the seams rather than into them.

Brush outward from openings and edges.
Avoid alcohol, solvents, and rough fabric on polished shells.
Do this before deeper bore cleaning.

Step 02

Clear the sound bores

With the included cleaning tool, lift any earwax or dust from the openings of the sound bores. Work only from the surface — your monitors will tell you when something is too deep to touch, and you should listen.

Hold the bore downward when possible.
Scoop from the opening; do not dig into the tube.
Stop if the wax is hardened or lodged deep inside.

Step 03

Care for cable contacts

Disconnect by holding the connector housing — never the cable itself. Inspect the pins and socket area for lint or residue, and clear any dry debris with a soft brush before reconnecting. A confident connection is a quiet one.

Never pull the cable itself to disconnect.
Reconnect straight, without twisting the pins.
Do not use liquid cleaner on exposed contacts.

Step 04

Control moisture

After use, allow the monitors to rest on a clean surface and air-dry before the case closes around them. A fresh desiccant pack quietly absorbs the residue of sweat, humidity, or stage heat — protecting the acoustics from the inside out.

Replace desiccant packs when saturated or expired.
Keep monitors away from heat, dryers, and direct sun.
If exposed to water, disconnect the cable and let everything dry fully.

Step 05

Store without tension

Once the monitors are clean and dry, return them to the protective case. Coil the cable loosely, with generous radius — so the connectors, the memory wire, and the strain reliefs never carry the weight of a tight bend overnight.

Use the case whenever the monitors are not in your ears.
Keep loose tools, keys, and metal objects away from the shells.
Do not store monitors in pockets or bags without protection.

Step 06

When repair belongs to us

Some attention belongs in the workshop. If the mesh of a universal nozzle becomes clogged with earwax, or if a UIEM or CIEM shell shows a crack, bring the monitor to AAW or an authorized dealer. We will assess the path forward — mesh replacement, repair, or full reshell — together.

Do not pick, pierce, or push through a clogged mesh.
Use AAW or an authorized dealer for mesh replacement.
Stop using cracked shells until they are assessed for repair or reshell.

Service rhythm

When to clean, when to rest, when to come to us

A few minutes of care after each session prevents most problems. Workshop service is reserved for blocked bores, loose parts, visible cracks, intermittent channels — anything that no longer feels right in your hand or in your ear.

Every use

Wipe or brush the shells, check the bore openings, and let any moisture dry before the case closes.

Weekly

Under good light, inspect the cable contacts, the case padding, the desiccant, and every surface of the shell.

Send for service

Reach out to AAW if a bore is blocked deep inside, the fit changes suddenly, the shell is damaged, or one channel begins to drift in and out.

For blocked sound tubes, damaged shells, cable faults, or refit questions, reach out to our Singapore workshop before attempting anything aggressive at home. Whatever your monitor needs, our hands know the way back to its best.
