Design Story
Successor to the W900. Reference, redefined.
Mockingbird is the successor to AAW's acclaimed W900 and represents the summit of our ideology: fusing the best traits of dynamic and balanced armature drivers into a single coherent stage. Instead of using high-order RC crossover networks that introduce chaotic phase shift and scrambled arrival timing, AAW developed TrueXross — a completely new approach to solving the classic coherence issue in hybrid earphones.
The dynamic driver is proprietary tuned at the diaphragm level. A physical low-pass filter further restricts it to a minimal overlapping frequency range relative to the balanced armature drivers. Combined with precise positional arrangement and front acoustic chamber design, the result is improved coherence, minimized phase shift, and optimized arrival timing across the entire spectrum.
Built as true reference equipment: powerful yet natural sub-bass you will never find in a full balanced armature IEM, inherited AAW musical imaging and instrument separation, and a realistic sound stage stepped up with extended treble and superior detail retrieval. Same driver platform, same TrueXross crossover — universal or custom.
Fitment Options
Available in universal and custom fit.
Universal fit ships with LiquidMorph tips, AAW foam tips, and assorted silicone tips. Custom fit is built from ear impressions. Both use the same nine-driver hybrid reference platform.
Acoustic Architecture
TrueXross crossover. No chaotic phase shift. One coherent stage.
Traditional high-order RC crossover networks create phase shift and scrambled arrival timing in hybrid earphones. TrueXross eliminates this — the dynamic driver uses a physical low-pass filter so it operates in a minimal overlapping range versus the armatures. Precise positional arrangement and front acoustic chamber design then align the wavefronts. Mockingbird uses a 4-way crossover network with dedicated woofer, mid, treble, and super tweeter paths. The bespoke super tweeter armatures — developed with the world's leading BA manufacturer — sustain sound pressure to 20kHz and extend to 40kHz.

Sound Signature & Frequency Response
Reference performance. Measured and verified.
Mockingbird is tuned as true reference equipment. The frequency response is the result of TrueXross 4-way crossover tuning — proprietary dynamic woofer delivers natural sub-bass extension, and the bespoke super tweeters sustain output past 20kHz. Every driver band is shaped for phase coherence, not just amplitude. The end result is high-end speaker-like performance condensed into the tiny footprint of an IEM.
Natural sub-bass
Proprietary tuned dynamic woofer delivers powerful yet natural low-end you will never find in a full BA IEM. Physical low-pass filter keeps it clean and phase-coherent.
Acclaimed imaging
Inherits AAW's highly praised musical imaging and instrument separation. Vocals and instruments sit in a realistic, layered sound stage with precise positioning.
Extended treble
Bespoke super tweeters sustain SPL to 20kHz and extend to 40kHz. Superior detail retrieval without fatigue. Cymbal air, string harmonics, room cues — all present and natural.
Speaker-like coherence
TrueXross eliminates phase shift and scrambled timing. Wide stage, accurate positioning, layered depth. Nine drivers performing as one coherent source.
Cabling and Accessories
The everyday kit.
Symphonym Tiburon cable
48 inch Null Audio Symphonym Tiburon UPOCC copper cable. Low microphonics. Detachable 2-pin connector.
LiquidMorph tips
Silicone tips with a teal inner bore. Keeps the dynamic woofer sealed for consistent bass and center image.

FAQ
Before you choose Mockingbird
What is the Mockingbird driver configuration?
Nine-driver hybrid reference monitor. One proprietary tuned dynamic woofer with physical low-pass filter for natural sub-bass. Eight balanced armature drivers including bespoke super tweeters covering mids, treble, and ultra-high frequencies. TrueXross 4-way crossover network.
What is TrueXross?
TrueXross is AAW's proprietary approach to solving the classic coherence issue in hybrid earphones. Instead of using high-order RC crossover networks that cause chaotic phase shift and scrambled arrival timing, TrueXross uses a physical low-pass filter on the dynamic driver so it operates in a minimal overlapping frequency range relative to the balanced armature drivers. Combined with precise positional arrangement and front acoustic chamber design, this achieves improved coherence, minimized phase shift, and optimized arrival timing.
What are the bespoke super tweeter drivers?
AAW worked with the world's leading balanced armature manufacturer to develop custom super tweeter drivers exclusively for Mockingbird. These bespoke drivers sustain sound pressure level all the way to 20kHz and extend to 40kHz, delivering extended treble and superior detail retrieval that gives Mockingbird its high-end speaker-like performance.
Is Mockingbird available as universal and custom fit?
Yes. Universal-fit units ship with LiquidMorph tips, AAW foam tips, and assorted silicone tips. Custom-fit units are built from ear impressions. Both use the same nine-driver hybrid reference platform.
What sound signature does Mockingbird have?
True reference signature. Powerful yet natural sub-bass that full BA IEMs cannot reproduce. Inherits AAW's highly praised musical imaging, instrument separation, and realistic sound stage. The bespoke super tweeters deliver extended treble and superior detail retrieval. The end result is high-end speaker-like performance in an IEM footprint.
What comes in the box?
48 inch Null Audio Symphonym Tiburon UPOCC copper detachable cable, wooden AAW carry case, LiquidMorph tips, AAW short-stem foam tips (S/M/L), AAW assorted silicone tips (S/M/L x2). One-year limited warranty.
