Design Story
Successor to the W900. Reference, redefined.
Mockingbird is the successor to AAW's acclaimed W900 and represents the summit of our ideology: fusing the best traits of dynamic and balanced armature drivers into a single coherent stage. Instead of using high-order RC crossover networks that introduce chaotic phase shift and scrambled arrival timing, AAW developed TrueXross — a completely new approach to solving the classic coherence issue in hybrid earphones.
The dynamic driver is proprietary tuned at the diaphragm level. A physical low-pass filter further restricts it to a minimal overlapping frequency range relative to the balanced armature drivers. Combined with precise positional arrangement and front acoustic chamber design, the result is improved coherence, minimized phase shift, and optimized arrival timing across the entire spectrum.
Built as true reference equipment: powerful yet natural sub-bass you will never find in a full balanced armature IEM, inherited AAW musical imaging and instrument separation, and a realistic sound stage stepped up with extended treble and superior detail retrieval. Hello,
The combination Mockingbird iem + Aoraki cable is really enjoyable, i.e. mind-blowing! Known tracks of various genres (baroque, reggae, trance, ...) are now more detailed. This gain doesn't come at the cost of musicality; you can enjoy beautifully rendered tunes as a whole or focus effortlessly on a counter melody!
I haven't tried them with my phone yet but they are easily driven by an Hiby R6 balanced output, so there shouldn't be any problem.
The only "warning" I would like to share is that these iem are thick (for a good reason, 1 dynamic driver + 2 mid BA + 2 high BA take some space). I own the universal version and they tend to get out of my ears when I get agitated. My advice would be to get the custom version to enhance insertion into the ears.
Anyway this is nothing compared to the pure audio bliss these iem represent!

First i want write positive impression, like rapid delivery also using economico shipment. In addition no custom duties. But te earphone was packed orribly in plastic bag without pouch or bag. But, the worst was that tips (just six S/M/L) was not for W900 (probable 200 instead 500).Not a good deal.

I bought a pair of AAW W500 late 2017 and could never use it due to catastrophic fit. I don't know where it went wrong: myself, the audiologist (prints checked by photos by AAW before buying, I had to go to a second audiologist) or AAW. But in my opinion, the whole process is unsound: when the fit is not correct, it is incredibly difficult for the final user to guess what's exactly wrong. Do we need no remove some thickness here, or to add some thickness here? It turns out to be a "guess game", with a lot of time and money loss for both parties. (Sendind the earbuds to AAW would cost me about 50EUR (60USD) each time, plus there is a risk of tax or parcel loss). Finally, the process was so time consuming and, to avoid additional money loss, I decided not to return the earbuds for re-fit. So I have been having 1000EUR earbuds taking dust on my desk for more than a year. That's, by far, the most disappointing audio buy I ever made...

Beautiful and comfortable headphones. Very detailed and rich sound. Headphones are very smooth in sound. Butt joints, as in hybrids, are completely silent.
